JUGA Isn’t Working

Google this and you will find some good help right up at the top of the results.

In my case I had neglected to install the system plugins. These are the stray .zip files in the bundle, whose filenames all begin with “juga_plugin”.

I couldn’t figure out what the fuck to do with those .zip files for the longest time.  I was repeatedly trying to install them by going into the JUGA modules menu and uploading the .php file contained in the .zips.

It’s something that wasn’t covered very well in the documentation I think.

JoomlaPack is Awesome

It actually works as advertised. JoomlaPack is a backup utility for Joomla. It is compatible with versions 1.5 and the version of Joomla which I am using, Joomla 1.0.

But things are not so pretty with Joomla 1.0. It wasn’t m7 choice to use it, but that’s what I have to work with.

It was difficult to figure out how to use it so I just wanted to outline the steps I took to create a local copy of my development site. I could use the same steps to backup and restore the live site if needed. I’m running the dev and live sites on Linux while my local system is Windows XP.

1. Make backups of your site using JoomlaPack. Move the .zip file onto your local system. You do not need to backup the database, this is included with the .zip file of the site.

2. Unzip the .zip file and copy all the files into your Apache folder

3. Go into the “installation” folder and delete all the files and folders you find there, except for the “sql” folder.

4. Move all the files inside “sql” up a folder except for joomla.sql.

5. Navigate to http://localhost/installation/index.php (adjust this url according to your own setup) and you should find an installation walkthrough similar to the one which you see during a clean install of Joomla 1.0.

When I do this I have a site that seems to work. One exception: JUGA user groups and related permissions do not seem to work in the copy of the site.

Calmed Slightly

I think I best not rewrite the menus. It’s so close anyway. The whole reason to rewrite them would to make them so restricted areas/content do not appear in the menus. But, it will be good-enough to just lock the content down with JUGA and the users will see the Access Denied. Kinda whack but good enough.

Yeah, it’s pretty easy to get past that stuff with some simple SQL. I always try hard to work within a given framework. Too hard.

TOTALLY FUCKED!!!

It seems like this joomla site is a pile of shit. Steaming shit. The menus are just fucked. A flash designer set this up. I believe it will need a huge overhaul to fix this shit.
